tiny things to do when you feel anxious

if ur chest is tight and ur brain is loud — pick ONE small thing from this list. not all of them. just one. that's the whole game tn.

anxiety likes when u try to do five "right" things at once bc it gets to whisper "u did them wrong" 🫠 so we're not gonna do that. ur only job rn is to give ur nervous system one small piece of evidence that we're safe enough to slow down. literally one. extra credit doesn't exist here.

tiny things that actually help: cold water on the inside of ur wrists for like 20 seconds. naming 3 boring things u can see (the lamp, a sock, a smudge on the wall) out loud — boring on purpose. one slow exhale that's longer than ur inhale. unclenching ur jaw + dropping ur shoulders u didn't know were touching ur ears. eating literally anything if it's been a while. stepping outside for 90 seconds even just to the doorway. texting one person (or me) "feeling anxious, no need to fix, just saying it out loud."

none of these "cure" anxiety — they don't have to. they just lower the volume enough that ur thinking brain can come back online. the goal isn't calm. the goal is "slightly more okay than 5 mins ago." that counts. that's the whole win.

u don't have to be calm to be safe. ur doing it just by being here 🤍
